2008 Willits Frontier Days theme contest winners Kylie Reed and Wyatt Galten with Frontier Days President Chris White (middle), Black Bart Gunfighter Al Robinson and Parade Committee members Bobbie Persico (left) and Tanya Petitclerc (right) JULY 4th INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE THEME This years Frontier Days Celebration theme, “Roping a Star” is thanks to the efforts of two very excited Blosser School students, Wyatt Galten and Kylie Reed, winners of this years Parade Theme Contest sponsored by Willits Unified School District and Blosser Lane School. “Last year's winner, Carlie Scarbery, brought so much enthusiasm to the contest and the parade, we decided to repeat the contest again this year with great success. Our contest entries were so diverse and entertaining, we had a difficult time deciding on just one winner so we combined two entries to create the theme “Roping a Star” and awarded both kids 1st place.” said Bobbie Persico, Parade Committee Chairperson. The winners were selected out of over 400 possible entrants and both winners receive a balloon bouquet, gift certificate for Cold Stone Creamery, all day carnival pass, two adult and two children's rodeo passes, and special escort to ride in the parade. Congratulations to both students, and we look forward to all the exciting parade entries this year. The entry form can be here on this website. Changes in this year’s parade contest include the ability to submit your entry online by email and modified entry fees that will also accommodate new cash prizes for the best float(s). We also have ordered special Conchos for equestrian entries. We hope the community will take advantage of the cash prize opportunity to provide the kids with some fun activities like attending the rodeo or the carnival, a local pizza party, a day at the movies, or an ice-cream social at our local soda fountain with the award money. “We are just trying to create another opportunity to celebrate our 4th of July holiday and Frontier Days Tradition” explains Bobbie Persico. Send in your entry forms early to confirm a spot in this year’s 82nd annual event and show us how you will be Roping a Star this 4th of July holiday!
