2009 Willits Frontier Days theme contest winner Sabrina Garcia with Frontier Days President Chris White (middle) and Parade Committee Chairs Bobbie Persico (left) and Tanya Petitclerc (right) JULY 4th INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE THEME “Red, White, and Blue: Our Hope, Our Pride” Congratulations to Sabrina Garcia of Ms. Pierce’s third grade class at Blosser Lane Elementary School! Sabrina’s entry was selected as the 2009 Parade Theme Contest Winner. This year, the Willits Frontier Days Parade Committee presented an opportunity for the students of Blosser Lane Elementary School to create a theme that embraces both the American Flag and Frontier Days. Bobbie Persico, Parade Committee Chairperson, commented, “The parade committee has been putting in a lot of hours of research watching other parades and reviewing parade policies from other communities. We are looking for ideas that will help inspire our community to participate in the parade and the Willits Frontier Days calendar of events. This year, we agreed the theme should have a solid concept to embrace. The American Flag inspired us to develop this year’s contest around this concept.” “We encourage all 2009 parade entries to create their entry around the Flag symbol and our 2009 theme RED, WHITE, and BLUE: Our Hope, Our Pride. We believe the community will be able to come up with some great American flag related parade entries. We are looking forward to the window dressing contest for the hometown celebration.” As the winner of this year’s contest, Sabrina will receive a framed award certificate, an all day ticket for the carnival, two adult passes and two children’s passes for one day of the 2009 Rodeo events, a special delivery from Flowers by Annette for a balloon bouquet with gift certificate for Cold Stone Creamery, and a special recognition ride in this year’s parade.
